Three Hopes’ and Today’s New Releases, Plus the Big Ol’ Super Sale – TouchArcade

[ad_1]

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 24th, 2022. In today’s article, we have a surprisingly large number of new releases to go through thanks to several dropping out of thin air yesterday. There are a few big titles today, including Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Capcom Fighting Collection, AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, and more. After that, it’s sale time. Big, big sale time. Hundreds of games, and those are just the ones I’ve noted here. Let’s get to it.

New Releases

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes ($59.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Is it Warriors time again? Yes, it is. This time we’ve got another Fire Emblem-flavored spin, and given Koei Tecmo also made Three Houses in cooperation with Intelligent Systems, you can have some confidence in how they’ll handle these characters and the overall setting. You know the broad strokes here. It’s you against thousands, and somehow the board is still tilted in your favor. Add in some Fire Emblem twists, and specifically some Three Houses twists, and you’re more than halfway there. Naturally, there are some spoilers here if you haven’t finished Three Houses yet. You should probably do that if you haven’t, even if just on principle.

Capcom Fighting Collection ($39.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

I already reviewed this one a couple of days ago, but in case you missed it, I concluded that this is a solid collection of arcade games that is hurt only by how much it leans on Darkstalkers variants, how much its selection overlaps with Capcom Arcade Stadium, and the poor experiences I’ve had with its online play. You get ten games here, with half of them essentially forming a complete collection of arcade Darkstalkers titles. You also get Super Gem Fighter/Pocket Fighter and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Hyper Street Fighter II, Cyber Bots, and for the first time ever at home, Red Earth. A cool set for fans of Capcom’s one-on-one brawlers.

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative ($59.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

AI: The Somnium Files kind of ruled, and it’s perhaps no big surprise that its follow-up also rules. The story goes that the right half of a corpse was discovered six years ago, which is probably not completely unreasonable given how weird some murderers can be. But suddenly the left half has been found, and there are zero signs of any decay. That… is not so easy to explain. Special Agents Mizuki and Ryuki are dispatched to solve the case with the help of their AI partners. It’s another fine adventure game, with a great story and some interesting puzzles to solve. I’ll have a review of it for you soon.

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined ($29.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Following on from excellent remakes of Wild Guns and Ninja Warriors, Tengo Project and Natsume-Atari have a superb remake/reimagining of the classic Pocky and Rocky. This one goes even further beyond being a simple remake, with more characters, stages, and gameplay mechanics to play with. I’ve had this since its Japanese release a couple of months back, so I can safely say this is the real deal. If you enjoyed the classic games or just like top-down shooters, you’ll have a blast with Pocky & Rocky Reshrined.

The Psychoduck ($4.99)

This game’s eShop description has a great sales pitch. It asks: “Do you love sneaking around, and hate herons?” Like, buddy. Who doesn’t hate those smug hooligans of the wetlands? So yes, if you hate herons and also love to sneak around, give this a look. You play as a slightly troubled duck who is collecting crowns and is willing to mass murder herons to get more. Skulk about, distract frog sentries with your slingshot, surf on the backs of alligators, gather snails, and do whatever else you need to do in order to take down those nasty herons. No, I don’t know either. I was just playing along so that the duck didn’t decide to kill me, too.

Bassmaster Fishing 2022: Super Deluxe Edition ($44.99)

The Switch has a lot of fishing games. This is another one. It seems to be packed with plenty of bells and whistles so you can enjoy a more authentic angling experience, and it even has online multiplayer for up to eight players. It features real pro anglers, real branded equipment, and a robust career mode for you to dig into. Somewhat unpredictably, I’m going to be reviewing this. Yes, I’m surprised too. It should be fun to try to remember literally anything from my childhood fishing trips. Maybe my uncle will yell at me if I make a mistake about something. Ha, don’t worry. My family doesn’t read these things.

The Legacy: Forgotten Gates ($6.99)

Another hidden object game for those who can’t get enough of them. This one has pretty solid reviews on other platforms, and the reasonable price sure doesn’t hurt. A young woman gets sent to another world via a museum exhibit (Truck-kun must have been off that day) and she needs to find her way back. She’ll probably save the planet along the way, as one does. Lots of hidden objects to find, puzzles to solve, and minigames to play. Apparently on the shorter side as these things go, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Escape Game – Fort Boyard 2022 ($29.99)

Another game based on the French TV program of the same name. Complete more than forty challenges either alone or in a group of up to four via local multiplayer, use a time machine to visit the history of Fort Boyard, or dabble in some cooking. Despite the name, this is fairly different from most escape room games. The previous games in this series have been kind of so-so on the whole, and I doubt this one will break that mold. Still, pull in some friends and you may have a decent enough time.

Escape Game R00M ($1.00)

This is a short, simple room escape game from the creator of the Cape’s Escape series. It’s pretty well in line with those games, so you get some reasonably good puzzles to solve and some hilariously poor translations courtesy of our robot overlords. It’s cheap enough that if you’ve been wondering about Alignment Sharp’s other similar games, it’s a good way to get a little taste of what they have to offer.

Airborne Motocross ($9.99)

This is a Trials-ish stunt bike game with the main gimmick being that you have a hang glider mounted on your bike. There are also items you can get that will allow you to blow up obstacles or even fly. You get more than two hundred and forty relatively short tracks to race on, and there are plenty of oddball challenges to help mix things up. It’s not too shabby, but if you want to try it yourself it is available as a free-to-play game on mobile. Give it a spin there and see if you feel like having a version that isn’t going to poke you to buy more gems.

Super Hero Flying School ($9.99)

Another BoomHits port of a free-to-play mobile game. This one sees you controlling generic super heroes as they learn to fly. Upgrade their abilities and fly to the targets in each stage. Give it a try for free on your mobile device if you’re interested in the idea, then decide if it’s worth ten bucks to you.

Cyber Engine ($0.99)

Following in the footsteps of this publisher’s previous release Steam Engine, Cyber Engine is an idle tapper/clicker. Like, it’s essentially exactly the same game but with a new skin. There’s a computer theme to this one. Well, it’s a buck.

Puzzle Cube: Magic Urbik Game ($2.99)

Because we needed more dog crap on the eShop, Cooking & Publishing has a virtual Rubik’s Cube clone that sure seems like a hasty mobile template conversion. But they flipped two letters around, so no worries about infringement. You have to use touch controls, so it’s meant for undocked play only. And yes, it’s just a video game version of a Rubik’s Cube.

Real Car Driving Simulator & Parking 2022 Games ($14.99)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you don’t have enough respect for your game to give it a proper title instead of a Purple Monkey Dishwasher SEO Thirst title, then I don’t have enough respect for your game to write anything about it. Get in the bin, you absolute piece of soulless junk.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

There are, like, a billion new sales today. Nintendo is calling it the Big Ol’ Super Sale, which I guess sounds better than The E3, Except E3 Was Canceled, Sale. As always with these really big ones, I’m going to be putting a rather curated selection here. Pretty much just the biggest of the big, along with any games hit new low prices. Check your wish lists because it really does feel like almost everything is on sale this time. Here goes!
